History of Sorrento
Sorrento is believed to be the first European settlement in Victoria, discovered in 1803. George Coppin developed the area as a tourist destination for the rich and famous during the 1870’s. This historic township on the Mornington Peninsula is very picturesque, and has some of the oldest and highest limestone buildings in Australia.
How to get to Sorrento
Sorrento is only 90 minutes from the Melbourne CBD, it’s an easy drive by car, providing a relaxing weekend getaway for people who reside in Melbourne and surrounding areas.
If you are travelling by public transport, you can catch a train to Frankston and then change to a bus which will take you to Sorrento.
A more scenic way of getting to Sorrento is catching the ferry from Queenscliff. The journey takes 40 minutes and you’ll see some spectacular coastal scenery, and if you’re lucky you might even spot a dolphin!
