How do you get to Portsea?
It takes just over 1 hour 40 minutes by car from the Melbourne CBD to Portsea. If you are flying, the closest airports are Tullamarine Airport or Avalon Airport. You can hire a car from the airport or the closest car hire depot to Portsea is located in Rosebud.
It is possible to get to Portsea via public transport, but it’ll take longer. From Melbourne you can catch the train to Frankston and then transfer to a bus which will stop in Portsea.
What outdoor activities are there around Portsea?
There’s plenty of outdoor activities to do in Portsea, both on land and on sea. For those who enjoy walking, there are lovely coastal trails in the area, and bike riding in Point Nepean National Park is popular with stunning coastal view on offer. Some popular walks are:

- Two Bays Walking Track (26 km)
- The Coastal Walk (30 km)
If you’re looking for a longer walk, there’s the Mornington Peninsula Walk which is 100 km. You can break up this walk by camping along the way at the Bay Trail’s foreshore sites.

The most popular place to dine in Portsea is the famous Portsea Hotel, which was established in 1876. With amazing views over the water it has a wonderful and varied menu and is an ideal place for catching up with friends and family for lunch or dinner, or celebrating special events and weddings.
Mornington Peninsula is one of Victoria’s biggest and best wine regions, so make sure you visit the wineries to try some local wine and gourmet fare while you’re here. A lot of the restaurants and cafes feature local produce on their menus too.
