It is nestled between Safety Beach and McCrae, and situated at the foot of Arthurs Seat, which is the highest point on the Peninsula. Arthurs Seat and it’s bushland provide a scenic back drop to the Dromana foreshore and the coastal boulevard, which is a bustling shopping strip with a variety of boutiques, cafes, restaurants and a Hotel. Colourful bathing boxes line the beach and the Dromana pier is popular for fishing. With a playground close to the pier and several BBQ’s and gazebos, the foreshore makes a lovely picnic area for family fun!

How to get to Dromana

If you’re travelling by car, the fastest way to get to Dromana from Melbourne is by taking the M1 and then joining the Eastlink tollway, which takes about 60 minutes. You can also get to Dromana without having to pay for tolls, which will take slightly longer.

You can catch public transport to get to Dromana. From Southern Cross Station in Melbourne, catch a train to Frankston station. It’s important to note that buses only run every 45 minutes during the week, and every one or two hours on weekends.

People who are flying into Victoria can either fly to Tullamarine Airport in Melbourne or Avalon Airport in Geelong.

Dromana is gorgeous seaside town close to lots of popular activities on the Peninsula, whether your interests are in food, nature, relaxing, water sports or wine. Here are just a few things to do while in holidaying Dromana.

Cafes and Restaurants

There’s nothing better than discovering a new café while on holiday, and Dromana has plenty of charming places to check out. If you enjoy starting your day with a good coffee, head to Little Rebel Roastery. You might even (dare I say it) find some of the best coffee outside of Melbourne. The café is in a big industrial space with huge murals covering the walls. The baristas have plenty of blends for you to try including filter brews on tap.

There are also a number of incredible restaurants dotted around Dromana that you should definitely check out including Monkey Business, Two Buoys and Kacha Thai.

Arthurs Seat

No trip is complete to the Mornington Peninsula without visiting Arthurs Seat Lookout. You can choose to walk, drive or take a gondola up to the lookout from Dromana. Once you’re at the top, there are several picturesque walks you can do. The lookout boasts spectacular views of the bay and the native surroundings.

Distillery

Did you know Victoria’s first craft rum distillery is in Dromana? Founder James McPherson decided that he wanted to make his own rum so he went on a whirlwind trip to North America, the Caribbean and Europe to do some research (and drinking) on craft distilling. He created JimmyRum where people can go and learn about the different styles of rum around the world. They also make a killer espresso rumtini.

Wineries

There are a number of wineries in and around Dromana, including Crittenden Estate. Owner Garry Crittenden is a pioneer in the Australian wine industry. Not only was he the first vintner to see the potential of Mornington Peninsula as a successful wine region, but he was also the first person to commercialise Italian grape varieties. He introduced several grape varietals that we have come to love today including sangiovese, barbera, Nebbiolo and dolcetto. While you’re at Crittenden Estate you should also stop by their award-winning restaurant Stillwater.
